Assessing, Learning, and Growing

Greetings in Christ!

I am writing this prayer letter from a hotel room in Lamjung, one of our beautiful project locations. The sun is shining over the beautiful Lamjung Himal, visible from my window, reminding me of God’s greatness and faithfulness. I am here with our team of teacher trainers to wrap up this year’s project cycle and conduct internal monitoring of our activities. We are here to visit schools to see firsthand the progress and challenges as we continue our mission to impact lives through education.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23-24 ESV). These verses have been on my heart as I reflect on my work of assessing schools and monitoring the impact of our projects. This process will continue until March, but already, God’s hand is evident in so many ways.

In November, I visited a school in Pokhara run by Love Justice International (LJI), a Christian nonprofit organization, to carry out a school assessment with a colleague. This visit reminded me of how God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice manifest in tangible ways, providing hope and transformation. It was an inspiring opportunity to see and reflect on how our faith drives our work.

Last month, I was in Rukum West with our team to monitor the activities carried out in 2024. One principal’s feedback encapsulated the project’s impact: “The classroom libraries have transformed students’ reading habits. Teachers’ adoption of new strategies, like group work and child-centered teaching, has improved lesson delivery. The child safeguarding committee and zero-punishment policy have created a safer environment. Parental involvement has significantly increased. Thank you for this valuable support in our school”

Seeing teachers trying their best to embrace child-centered teaching methods was encouraging. It was equally uplifting to witness children reading books beyond their textbooks, resources they would not typically have access to, and parents actively engaging in their children’s education. The presence of safeguarding committees and clear codes of conduct within the schools further reinforced the commitment to student well-being. These changes bring a deep sense of fulfillment to our work. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited time for teachers to prepare materials, and the need for subject-specific resources persist.

On a personal note, this season of monitoring and reflection has coincided with writing devotionals for Scripture Union Nepal from the book of 2 Kings. The fall of the Northern Kingdom’s kings serves as a reminder of the importance of self-monitoring and accountability. Their neglect led to idolatry and destruction (1 Kings 12-15).

At KISC, our recent professional development session, led by EQUIP, focused on self-reflection, helping staff examine their practices. These moments of spiritual and professional growth remind me of the importance of staying vigilant and prayerful in our calling.

Prayer requests

Please pray for our partner schools in Lamjung, Rukum, and Siraha, that they embrace the value of professional development and sustain these positive changes.

Pray for God to bring passionate individuals to join our team, people who are committed to impacting the next generation with Christ’s love.

Thank you once again for your faithful prayers and support. Your partnership is making a real difference in the lives of children, teachers, and parents in our projects. Let’s continue to guard our hearts and stay accountable for the work God has entrusted to us. May God continue to guide and bless you in all that you do.

In His service,

Krishna Bahadur Bohora
