Chad summer appeal

Could you help patients like Ousman* walk again?

How would you cope if you suffered a life-threatening injury in a country with one doctor for every 25,000 people?

In Chad, losing a limb in a traffic collision often means losing all hope. Could you give today to support patients suffering major trauma?

You can read Ousman’s story, and discover our free-to-download PowerPoint, perfect for a church service, further down this page.

Ingrid and Roger Hamlet are two of only eight people in Chad trained to support patients with tailor-made orthotics and prostheses.

In a country with such limited healthcare, your gift to support Ingrid and Roger won’t just help patients with limb injuries, but could also transform life for precious people with untreated diabetes, late-stage cancer, severe infections and children born with limb differences as Ingrid and Roger develop their work for the future. Your kind donation could enable so many to live lives to the full and to understand God’s love for them more fully, too.

How will your gifts make a difference?

  • Your gift of £30 could buy tools needed to start an initial orthotics workshop in Chad.

  • A gift of £56 could enable Ingrid to make a weekly visit to the hospital’s child development centre as she assesses patient needs.

  • Giving £84 could buy the heat guns needed to adjust new orthotics.

Your gift to the Chad Summer appeal will go towards supporting Ingrid and Roger’s work in Chad, as well as vital surgery and healthcare costs for patients at G2 Hospital. If our appeal target is exceeded, we’ll use funds for projects reaching people with practical support, wherever the need is greatest.

Ousman's story

In Chad, traffic accidents are heartbreakingly common. And for young people like Ousman caught up in them, there’s no hope of dialling 999. By the time Ousman was brought to BMS World Mission’s Guinebor II Hospital (G2), it was already too late to save his leg. Tragically, well-meaning onlookers had first taken him to a traditional healer, where practices such as tightly binding wounds can cause life-threatening conditions like gangrene and sepsis.

Ousman’s story is heartbreaking, but God was able to use his stay in hospital for good. Chaplains shared the love of Christ with the young man, and wonderfully, he gave his life to Jesus. Now, there’s a chance to help more people like Ousman, by supporting two new mission workers trained to support patients with life-changing orthotics and prostheses. Your gift to support Ingrid and Roger Hamlet could transform someone’s life, and enable them to experience God’s love for the first time too.
