Dear Church,
Christian greetings from Gulu, Uganda. I am so grateful to God for how far he has brought us and I trust that you all had wonderful holidays with your loved ones. Thank you so much for all your prayers and thoughts as they mean a lot to so many vulnerable women and children here in Gulu, Uganda.
I am happy to share the milestones - stories of growth, hope and collaboration - which demonstrate our collective commitment to transforming lives. As we look ahead, we remain excited and hopeful about the journey before us with God guiding and leading our every step.
Justice Livelihoods Health recently joined other development partners in Gulu to commemorate women’s day under the Theme “ACCELERATE ACTION FOR GENDER EQUALITY”. I was honored to give speeches on both occasions and I majorly focused on gender inequality which remains a pressing issue in our communities. Women and girls continue to face barriers in education, economic opportunities, political participation and protection from gender-based violence. In my speech, I emphasized that the challenges mentioned require urgent and sustained action and that it is the responsibility of the Civil Society Organizations to drive transformative change for gender equality in Gulu.
I have got schools training sessions; a community dialogue and 3 child protection cases on my table at the moment. One of the cases is of a little boy who has been acting very violent towards his teachers and fellow pupils in the school.
As I will be going off for maternity leave sometime at the end of April, we brought on a volunteer to help me with some of the activities for Child protection/safeguarding.
PRAISES:
Thank God for His protection as we go out almost weekly to every week to the field and back
We thank God that He has got us through the dry season as it has been extremely hot in Gulu.
I want to say thank you Lord for all the wonderful people who are walking with us in this journey of transforming lives through their generosity.
I want to say thank you to God for a very successful women’s day commemoration and that He gave us very good weather on the day.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. Please pray that the training sessions in the schools and the communities go well and that people will report more abuse and not be afraid. Also pray that the participants will attend in large numbers so that they can learn.
2. Please pray for our volunteer Sarah who will be helping me with Child protection work as I head off to have my baby. Pray that God will direct her and give her wisdom especially when dealing with child safeguarding issues.
3. Pray for one of the children that is going through a rough time due to separation from his parents. He was brought to Uganda to have better education but being away from his parents is having a very negative effect on him. Pray that God gives us wisdom on how to help him settle down and concentrate on studying.
4. And last but not least, please pray for a smooth birth and health for both myself and the baby.
We do value your prayers and support!
Yours in Service,
Valerie Kasamani Kisaber
