About
Andrea and Mark Hotchkin
Andrea and Mark are surgeons who work in an understaffed, under-resourced government hospital in Bardai in the Sahara Desert. Andrea specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology; Mark in emergency medicine.
The Hotchkins are some of our longest-serving mission workers. Their shared desire to see equality in healthcare first led them to Guinea, West Africa, where they worked for BMS for ten years, and later to N'Djamena, Chad’s capital, where they set up the BMS-supported hospital, Guinebor II.
Andrea and Mark learnt Arabic and the local Teda language to better equip them in their work. They share a love of music, reading, hill walking, camping, going to theatre and concerts. They have two children: Ruth and Rebecca.
