Ingrid and Roger Hamlet

March 2026

Prayer Letter

The year feels properly in full swing now with usual routines in place. We're enjoying some cooler weather after what has been an unusually warm cold season but anticipate the heat ramping up in March to the upcoming hot season. We enjoyed having some visitors in January who had travelled to G2 for the annual board meetings.

The prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) department steadily progresses, and construction started in late January on the small section of the planned P&O building. It's amazing to see the walls going up and how well the workers manage in the hot sunshine. After a few niggles that needed ironing out (everything ends up being more complex here) we are ready to order the large consignment of tools and machinery from Switzerland to set up the workshop once the building is ready. Not all the machinery will be used straight away, but we'll be able to store them until the final workshop is built.

Beyond this, Roger visited a children's hospital in Kenya with a large P&O department. It was really useful for him to spend time in a busy clinic and to see some of the manufacturing processes and componentry they use. Ingrid has been working on proposal writing for grant fundraising. We have two deadlines coming up, one for partial funding of the solar power system that the department will require, and another for partial funding for the full department building. She enjoys the challenge, but being new to this type of work can make it quite time consuming.

We had been waiting patiently for some items we had bought in March 2025, to come in a shipping container from South Africa. After quite a delay it finally arrived in Chad this January! We are very happy to have a slighter larger fridge now and a washing machine (though this is not yet installed), and the kids are ecstatic to have a trampoline! As the houses at G2 are only set up for cold water, we also bought a small gas water heater. This was originally intended to be used with the washing machine, but after a year's worth of the seasons in Chad, we're starting to think it might be better to use with the shower as none of us really enjoy taking cold ones!

With the mix of languages in Chad and the low literacy rates (men 35%; women 19%), visual descriptions and murals at G2 are important and frequently used. There is a long wall in the hospital compound that the hospital intends to depict important stories running through the bible. There are currently three in place, but, unfortunately, five others had to be painted over when the wall prep meant they didn't adhere well. Ingrid has started to repaint some of these murals and is just about to finish the first one, 'creation', showing the world, the moon and the sun.

Praise God:

That G2 board members were able to come together for the annual meetings, dedicating time to explore the future strategic thinking of the hospital and celebrate the good work being done here.

That we have been able to start the build for the first stage of the physical P&O department.

Prayer Requests:

That the order for machinery from Switzerland, and it's travel by air will go ahead without issue.

That the proposals being submitted soon will be well received and successful, and for the other fundraising efforts that are in the works to progress the department.

That an appropriate candidate to send for P&O training in Togo will be identified.

For all the Muslims in Chad as they continue their Ramadan fasting knowing that daytime temperatures will intensify over March.

For security at Chad's eastern border with Sudan, which has been closed this week as fighting in Sudan comes closer to the frontier. Pray for those who have sought refuge in the Chadian camps and those still surrounded by civil war in Sudan.

We look forward to seeing what the next couple months have in store here in Chad, thank you all so much for your ongoing support and prayers.
