“The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.” — Psalm 126:3
Dear friends and partners,
Warm greetings from Gulu in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we approach the end of the year, I am grateful for this opportunity to share how God has continued to work through our ministry. Your prayers and partnership through BMS have strengthened and encouraged us greatly. Thank you for walking this journey with us and for your faithful support throughout 2025.
The past few months have been filled with significant progress and deep joy in our CCM ministries. On 4th October, we celebrated the graduation of thirty-eight leaders who completed the oral biblical studies curriculum. The ceremony was full of gratitude and testimonies, as pastors, deacons, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, and women’s ministry leaders shared how the training has transformed their understanding of Scripture and strengthened their ministries. Seeing leaders who previously lacked access to structured training now confidently teaching God’s Word has been deeply encouraging. Their growth reminds us why investing in church leaders is so vital for long-term gospel impact.
Alongside this, our CCM work has continued to expand. This year we have completed three facilitator trainings, drawing participants from Baptist churches and several other denominations. The unity created through shared learning has been a beautiful expression of the body of Christ at work. Our fourth and final training for the year will take place in December, focusing on Community Description. During this stage, churches learn to understand the real issues affecting their communities, listen well to their people, and identify the local resources God has already provided. It is often at this point that churches begin to recognise their potential to bring meaningful, God-honouring transformation.
I am also excited to share that I have been invited to attend the EXPECT 26 Conference in London in June 2026. This will finally give me the opportunity to visit our partner churches in the UK, meet many of you face-to-face, and strengthen our relationship further. I am deeply grateful for this open door and look forward to all that God will do through it.
At University Community Church, graduation season at Gulu University has brought both joy and sadness. We rejoice to see our students complete their degrees and prepare to serve Christ in new areas, yet their departure leaves leadership gaps in our congregation. Serving a transient university community is always challenging, but we continue trusting God to raise new leaders who will serve faithfully in the years ahead.
Within our family, Dawn is finishing Grade 6 next week and will transition to Grade 7 next year. We are currently searching for a suitable day school that will allow him to stay close to us.
Please pray for wisdom and provision as we make this decision. Micaiah and Carissa are well and continue to fill our home with laughter and joy. We remain grateful for God’s sustaining grace.
● Give thanks to God for the successful graduation of the 38 church engagement participants in October. Many of you prayed for this event in our previous newsletter, and we are grateful that the day was joyful, orderly, and deeply impactful for all involved. Pray for the graduates as they return to their churches to teach and disciple others.
● We also thank God for the steady progress in CCM this year and for the unity developing among the participating churches.
● Pray for the results of the training in early December, that churches will clearly understand the Community Description process and apply it fruitfully.
● Kindly pray for University Community Church as we navigate the challenges of a transient student ministry, and for God’s guidance as we make schooling decisions for our son Dawn as he moves into Grade 7 next year.
Thank you once again for your faithful partnership. Because of your prayers and support, leaders are being equipped, churches are being mobilised, and communities are experiencing gospel-shaped transformation in northern Uganda. We deeply appreciate your love, encouragement, and generosity. May the Lord continue to bless and guide you in all things.
Merry Christmas and a happy 2026!
With gratitude,
Jimmy Okello
