Dear all
I am now in my last few days here in Mozambique, and busy with sorting out all the practicalities of leaving. I go on Saturday 22nd, and have a short break before arriving back in the UK.
A time of goodbyes
These last few weeks have, as expected, been full of goodbyes. I went to Maputo towards the end of January, to see and be able to say goodbye to people there face-to-face. I'm so glad I was able to go; with the unrest following the elections I wasn't sure for a while if a trip to Maputo was going to be possible, but thankfully it was.
Whilst I was there, we held a fellowship with the students who regularly come into the office to gain experience of life as a lawyer and of justice, and who also often volunteer at AMAC events. I shared with them on Isaiah 42, which is a chapter that talks about the future coming of Jesus and, in particular, his role in bringing justice.
I have also had goodbyes with various groups here in Beira. Friends, EquipMoz (our IT partner for the app project, but I also use other parts of their organisation in a personal capacity), fellowship in the AMAC office, church. Each one special in its own way.
Leaving AMAC in good hands
I was reminded recently of, when I came back in January last year, how impressed I was with the staff in the AMAC office and their dedication to AMAC through what had been a difficult time. And, as I'm preparing to leave AMAC and Mozambique, I have to remember that I'm leaving AMAC in their hands.
And not just in their hands, but in God's hands. He is ultimately the one who guides and knows the future of AMAC, and so I just have to entrust the organisation and the people that work there to Him.
Protest update
My last few prayer letters have mentioned the protests in Mozambique following the elections in October, and I wanted to give a last update on the situation before I left. The new President was inaugurated on 15th January, and since then the country has been much more stable. There have been minor protests and road blockages, but nothing like before Christmas.
The opposition leader who had been calling for all the protests said shortly before the inauguration that he'd give the new President 100 days to see what he does.
Please pray:
For the AMAC staff and Board, as they guide AMAC forward during this time of change. That, as well as bringing justice, they would be effective witnesses for Christ – not only to clients, but also to other legal professionals.
For my church here, Macuti Baptist Church, that each of them would grow more in their love of Christ and that this love would shine out to those around them.
For me, as I travel and then start to transition to life in the UK.
I mentioned that I leave here on 22nd February. I will be with BMS for three months after that, and am planning to write a final newsletter during this time.
Thank you for all your support and prayers for Mozambique and our work here.
Love Jane
