September 2024

The Work of God is marvelous!

Greetings to all BMS supporters

It has been a great time and new challenges after coming back from our home assignment. We spent two months in Mizoram, India visiting with church members and relatives and we have experienced the faithfulness of God within these two months (August and September). As soon as we arrived back in Phnom Penh, me and my wife returned to our ministry responsibilities as well as our children continuing school with good health.

While I am writing this prayer letter, in Cambodia one of the most important festivals called Pchum Ben is been observed by the people of Cambodia. There will be one week (30 Sept – 4 Oct 2024) of holiday for this festival.  This festival is a tribute to the spirits of ancestors who have passed away. It is believed to be a time where the spirits of their ancestors come back to this world from the city of dead people. They believe that their life journey will be decided by their karma and by the offerings made by their living relatives during Pchum Ben.  For those who are interested to know more about this festival visit: https://intocambodia.org/content/pchum-ben-day-or-ancestor-day.

Most of our hostel students will be spending their time with their family. They will be going home during this festival. This is a challenging time for the young Christian who are having non-Christian parents. Most of the parents of our Christian students are not Christian. Therefore, it is a high time for our prayer support for the new disciples of Christ in Cambodia.

The following points are some of the highlights of our activities within the last two months (August to September)

·       Training was conducted for our evangelists at Horaios Baptist church.

·       Children ministry has been going well which is taken up by my wife Lalrengpuii assisted by one native and one missionary.

·      On Sunday 18 August, in Svaysor village (Before we wrote it as Svaysaw it should be written as Svaysor) six new believers got baptized.

·       Cell group and small churches combined worship was organized in Vehpous Baptist Church. More than 150 people meet to worship together on Sunday 25 August.

·       Leadership training in Horaios Baptist church was organized on 15 September.

·       Every year before Pchum Ben holiday, a special event for the dormitory students has been organized in the hostel. This year it was held on 19-22 September. This event focusing on evangelizing the students, encouraging them to stand firm in their faith in the midst of trail and problems particularly during the Pchum Ben festival because as mentioned above most of our Christian students' parents are not Christian.

Our three children Caleb (14 yrs), Sarah (11 yrs) and Puipuii (8 yrs)  join their school- new session. 12 August was Sarah’s birthday. She has grown up in Cambodia since she was 5 months old, we give thanks to God because Sarah was able to spend her birthday with safe and sound health. Caleb is fully recovered from his physical health. Puiipuii is also doing good as she is joyfully able to continue her studies.  For some days, after coming back from our home town they were longing for their grandparents and relatives but now they could adjust themselves to joining their class meeting with their school friends.

My wife Puii is also doing well. As she is continuing with her team doing children ministry in the village visiting once in a week. She and her team are given major responsibilities to organizing Children meetings that are to be held on the 22 October they are looking forward with preparation for the event. I am in good health and continue the regular routine of our ministry. Organizing monthly training for evangelists, leading weekly Bible study twice in a week at night, monitoring the on-going ministry projects - visiting the villagers organizing monthly prayer meeting in the project area are my regular involvement last two months.

New Believers:

Praise the Lord for adding to His church those who are been saved. In September we baptised 6 people who have made a confession of their faith in Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Change story:

Lyhong is one of the young boy who stays in the Horaios Hostel. Lyhong came to Phnom Penh from a rural community, seeking admission to join college. However, unfortunately he did not get admission thus could not able to continue what he has try for! Instead of going back to his village, he decided to study basic English and Computer application while waiting for the new session of the college. Whiles staying at the hostel which BMS continues to support, he attended the regular Bible study twice in a week, he participated in the worship service on Sundays and humbly learnt about Jesus. After staying nearly one-year he decided to give his life to Jesus Christ and he got baptized on the 22 September. Now he is the only Christian among the Boys residing in the Hostel. Let us uphold in our prayer so that he may become an instrument among his friend as a means of sharing the love and miracle of God with them.

Thanks be to God who has answered our prayers. Since we arrived in Cambodia we have been praying that God would raise leaders for the future of the church. After many years that prayer is being answered. This year one of the young girl's Thongsy, who is staying at the hostel has responded to God's call prepare herself through theological studies for what has in store for her. She would studying the Bachelor of Christian Studies Degree, full time for four years.

Her accommodation, feeding and tuition would be sponsored by Baptist Church of Mizoram. It is our prayer that God will provide further local giving to support her throughout the course of her studies. This young girl has responded to God's call to be trained as a minister of the gospel. She would become the first trained minister through BMS and BCM partnership in Cambodia. We are excited to see what has planned for her and how He will provide through His people.

Prayer requests:

Hostel rental contract agreement will end in the month of December 2024; we are looking for another house to be rented from January. Please pray that we may be able to find a suitable house; which we can use as a multi-purpose mission centre, as hostel for college students, a training centre and a worship place for Horaios Baptist Church.

On the 22 October we plan to organise Children's meeting as this is one of our annual mission plans. We expect children from 5 churches from different places. Pray that this coming event may be held smoothly.

I am planning to attend the BMS partner strategic meeting which is to be held on 5 - 8 November in India. Remember me in your prayers for safe travel.

Thank you for your support and giving your time to read our prayer letters. May the blessing of God shower upon you.

Psalm 118:23-24 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord had made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Blessings
