Last January the 12th, I arrived at Guinebor II Hospital in Chad. Thankfully, I made a safe trip and had two lovely, friendly faces waiting for me, Claire and Eric. It was a significant weather change. I left the UK at 3 degrees Celsius and arrived in N´Djamena at 27.
January is an important month for G2 Hospital, as it holds its annual Board of Trustees' meeting. During this time, we strive to evaluate our work from the previous year, identify areas that need improvement, and plan for the coming 12 months. It is a challenging task that requires the involvement of our board members, the Senior G2 Management team, and our partners. However, despite the difficulties, we had a great, prayerful, productive time.
I was able to meet many people involved with the hospital, including patients, collaborators, and members of the Chadian government and community. As a result, I gained a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We are grateful for the prayers and support of all those involved with the hospital, which has helped us to maintain our impressive reputation!
Our hospital has gained a reputation for providing high-quality service and care to our patients. We are proud to be able to serve our community and make a difference in people's lives. One of our patients' mothers recently expressed her appreciation, saying, "We can feel they really care about us!" This kind of feedback is what motivates our staff to continue striving for excellence.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible care, the pioneers have set high standards. We believe that it is essential to seek the Lord's guidance to continue growing without compromising the quality of service, care, and training that our patients deserve.
I hope to bring some financial strategic thinking into the team so we can grow financially healthy.
During the initial 20 days of settling into my new house and role, I dedicated myself to creating a cosy and inviting home. I must admit that I've always struggled with decorating, but I've been pleasantly surprised to find new talents emerging. Day by day, my home is transforming into a warm and beautiful retreat. While on my home assignment, I had the pleasure of visiting some partner churches, and in one of them, I received a beautiful prayer banner that now graces the wall of my office. This invaluable gift serves as a constant reminder of the unwavering support and love I received from you all.
The hospital has a vision to become a benchmark for training hospitals in Central Africa. As part of our commitment to excellence, we place a strong emphasis on providing ongoing training to our partners and senior staff. In January, we had the privilege of hosting representatives from a Swiss organization who conducted a comprehensive training session on administering hearing tests. We plan to utilize this newly acquired knowledge to offer hearing tests to children who visit our hospital for vaccinations. Our goal is to foster a culture of preventive healthcare, which is not yet widely practised among the local Chadian population.
Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures to share with you. Hopefully, I will create the habit of always having a camera with me!
Please, continue praying for my language learning. I plan to start in February with levels B1-B2 of French. I plan to achieve the level C1 by the end of the year.
Let us Praise our Lord for this first month in Chad. Despite the challenges, I am confident that I am in the right place at the right time. And pray for my physical health during this transition season.
Also,Pray for the hospital:
- The expat community;
- the safety of our national collaborators while they commute;
- and its finances.
