Mission to southern Thailand: a first-hand report

In Thailand, there are limited opportunities for people to study theology, but one place where they can is Karen Baptist Siloam Bible Institute (SBI),where BMS World Mission mission workers Paul and Sarah Brown are based. In March 2026, 21 new students joined Siloam Bible Institute and began studying how to become evangelists and pastors.  

Recently, eight students who are further on in their studies at SBI travelled to southern Thailand to preach the gospel to the Buddhist community. The ‘Karen’ in the institute’s full name refers to the Karen people group who are traditionally from parts of India, Myanmar and northern Thailand, so for the students going south is a cross-cultural experience.

Naw Precious Eh Taw (a SBI third-year student) was one of those who went on the mission trip. During the trip, she had the opportunity to experience a variety of forms of evangelism, from arranging activities for children to visiting elderly and sick people to pray for them. This is her story: 

Naw Precious’ story

By the grace of God, I have completed our SBI campaign trip over the entire two weeks.  

I am Naw Precious Eh Taw, a third-year student from SBI. Our group travelled among the villages and churches in the south.  

The purpose of this trip was to do mission. During the trip, I did a few things. For instance, worshipping with church members and doing performances to entertain them, visiting the elderly and sick people and praying for them, arranging activities for children, and so on.

I have seen the wonderful love and grace of God and experienced some new things, as well as a few heart-touching moments, from this trip. 

The most heart-touching moment was when I was the one to arrange an activity for children at a village. I remembered the moment I was chosen to lead the activity, I immediately prayed in my mind, and God answered me. Everything went better than I thought. The kids enjoyed the activities and snacks! Moreover, I shared the gospel with them. One thing that made me so happy is that they listen carefully to the gospel and could answer almost every question I asked them after. 

By the grace, wisdom and power of God

I believe that all things are done, not by my ability and strength but by the grace, wisdom and power of God. This event teaches and confirms to me that praying is the very first thing that must be done before anything else.  

Another heart-touching and encouraging moment was the visiting of elderly people, especially those who were once good servants of God, who served God with all their heart, strength and strong faith in their lives. I can see joy and peace in their faces and words, even though they are in a vulnerable stage and the difficult moving of old age. I can say that this is a blessing from God. They really motivated me to serve God and live for God’s ministry like them.  

Those precious experiences and memories will always be kept in my mind.
