Prayer is Everything

Dear Friends,

As some of you may know, the week beginning June 28th has a prayer focus on Peru according to our Prayer Guide. We would love to give you some context for your prayers as you lift us up before the Father, even beyond the week of prayer. Thank you for your faithfulness in this important task over the years - we truly feel the impact of your prayers each day.

Earthquake in Venezuela

There has recently been a double earthquake in Venezuela, bringing disruption, damage, and concern for those affected. Please pray for all who have lost loved ones, homes, or livelihoods, and for swift and effective emergency response in the hardest-hit areas.

Please also pray for local churches and Christian workers as they seek to offer practical help, comfort, and hope in the midst of uncertainty. Ask the Lord to strengthen communities, provide for immediate needs, and bring stability in the aftermath of this event.

Corruption and Extortion

After a strongly contested election, we finally have a new President of Peru. Keiko Fujimori has stood for election four times over last 15 years. Please pray for her to lead the country fairly and stand firmly against corruption. This is one of her stated core priorities and the country is in desperate need for this.

Another priority for her government is modernising the police force and reducing crime. The major concern is for extortion to be dealt with, as organised gangs regularly target individuals and small businesses for exorbitant sums for 'protection' - this causes fear and destroys livelihoods.

Missions Board

The Peruvian Baptist Convention formed a Mission Board 5 years ago. Last year, they succeeded in sending their first international missionary couple to Brazil. They have also completed several training events to enable local and regional mission throughout the country. They have planted churches within the Awahun indigenous community and restarted their youth missions gap year called Radical. Please pray for fruitfulness in everything they are doing. Pastor Raul, the Chairman of the board, would also appreciate your prayers for them to stay united and for abundant provision of resources for their important ministry.

Pastor Pedro and Pastor Franz

These faithful servants of God lead the National Convention and the Trujillo Baptist Seminary respectively. Pray for wisdom and God's grace to lead well, for good health and for others come alongside them as they raise up and support leaders for the church.

Ronal and Margia

This young missionary couple have lived in Chepen, a small town 2 hours north of Trujillo for six years with their two children, having started right after they got married. Pray for them to be encouraged in their ministry, for fruitfulness in their labour of love, good health and wellbeing, and for others to be raised up to stand and serve with them.

Pastor Luis

This veteran in the faith is constantly teaching and encouraging the younger generation to follow Christ. He tirelessly visits remote river communities in the Peruvian Amazon, strengthening churches and counselling families in the ways of God. He has recently teamed up with Deber, a younger missionary, and we are praying that together they will consolidate and extend God's kingdom in the northern region of Peru called Loreto, working with other church leaders and servants of God. Pray for financial provision, unity and joy in the midst of many challenges.

For Us

Michele will start teaching a class in Ecclesiology (the origin and purpose of the church) and Missiology (the origin and purpose of mission) at Lima Baptist Seminary in August. Please pray for God to guide me as I prepare and deliver, for my students as they learn, and for Dave as he teaches Ministerial Formation (developing new ministers) at Trujillo Baptist Seminary this coming semester. Please also include the children as they learn, that they will thrive academically and grow spiritually, in their friendships and extra-curricular activities. Celebrating the CEBP

The Peruvian Baptist Convention turned 75 years this year. Please join us in thanksgiving for God's mercy and faithfulness over these decades and for renewed vision and strength for the years ahead. Some of their desires is for more churches to join the convention, for those that are part of it to be more committed, for churches without pastors to gain good leadership, and for many more churches to be planted. May the Lord be glorified through this collective force for good!

Bringing it all together

'In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God.'

Rom 8:26-27 NIV. Lord, hear our prayers, In Jesus name, Amen.

We appreciate your intercessions on our behalf, and those we serve here. Let's trust God together for His kingdom to come, on earth as it is in heaven.

With much love,

The Mahons

P.S. We're looking ahead to a Home Assignment visit from 10th December 2026 to 15th January 2027. We're really hoping to connect with many of you during that time—more details will follow as plans come together.
