We pray this letter finds you well and managing to keep cool in the summer sun! We have been busy planning our visit to the UK in December and hope to see some of you in a few months' time.
Last week we were honoured to host Kang San Tan (BMS's General Director) and Kethoser Aniu Kevichusa (Director of Intercultural Learning and our line manager). It was their first time in Peru and our first time meeting with Aniu in person, who lives and works from Nagaland in Northeastern India.
The week started in Lima with a meeting with our Brazilian mission partners Carlos and Betty. They had an opportunity to thank us for our support and share a little of their call to mission here within the mission's board. The following day we met with the Directors of the Peruvian Baptist Convention at Ebenezer Baptist, the oldest church in our convention. Here is a picture of Kang-San presenting a shawl, a gift brought by Aniu on behalf of the Naga Baptist Convention. We concluded our meeting with Pastor Pedro Mejia (President of the Baptist Convention) giving thanks for partnership over the last 25 years, naming and thanking each BMS mission worker for their support in the ministry of the convention.
After a short flight to Trujillo, we had our final meeting with the Baptist Seminary of Trujillo. We were given a tour, then we joined the staff for lunch at a local Cuy (guinea pig) restaurant.
The final day included time with the family here at our home; we shared about our theological studies and projects, challenges and dreams for the future. They were a real encouragement to us all and they even brought us gifts of Indian clothing, food and custard powder from England! If any of you would like to come and visit us here, you would be most welcome. Please pray for Kang San and Aniu, that they would be refreshed by the Holy Spirit in their service to God, and that God would give them more wisdom and grace as they lead within BMS.
Soon after their visit, Michele spent a weekend at the National Congress of the Baptist Women's ministry in the mountains of Shiran, Trujillo. The theme was 'Women who reflect Hope'. I was invited to lead a devotional during which we meditated on John's vision of the heavenly throne room in Revelation 4, using our imaginations in worship and journalling in response. It was a new experience for most of the ladies, and I had some good feedback. Please pray that each delegate will put into practice what they have learned and will be even more fruitful and fulfilled as they live for the glory of God.
Ruth has auditioned and been chosen to perform in the school's production of Little Mermaid. She is very excited and we are all encouraging her to do a good job of practicing and staying disciplined. Please pray for her as she prepares for this. The show will take place on October 24th. Also please pray for Dave as he teaches at the annual Theological Conference on September 16-18 and Michele as she goes on a research study trip from September 21-28 to the Awahun community in Nuevo Belen.
We appreciate your encouraging support through prayers and giving. We are praying for you in all that you do, that God's mercy will be poured out to you in even greater measure, and that you will feel the Father's love surrounding your lives!
Blessings to you and yours,
The Mahons
