Dear Friends
Greetings from Thailand. We've been back here for almost a month now, since out Home Assignment in the UK, and gradually getting back into the swing of things.
In Wang Daeng, Pastors Neng and Sky are settling in well to the village. Pray that they would have a passion to serve the community, reach out to the lost and build up the faith of the church members. The football ministry now has a regular group of 10-15 youngsters coming for training and they have begun playing matches with other teams. Two weeks ago they formed a Christian youth club. Please pray for these youngsters and their families to come to know Jesus.
In Ban Dara, we praise God that the the church is growing and has seen many new believers in recent months. However, perhaps unsurprisingly, the leadership team seems to be under attack. Please pray for especially Som, who is frequently ill; for Malee, currently working in Bangkok with her non-Christian husband; and for Mon who has had many accidents and incidents recently. We thank God for bringing Alan, a mature believer, to join the church. He is a good musician and has been great in developing the worship team.
In Maesan, please pray for young Pastor Newton, who often feels quite isolated, working alone in a remote location. Many of the members are still involved in animistic practices, so pray that the Holy Spirit would work in their hearts as they study God's Word. Although things have improved a lot, there is still a long way to go. The congregation has been used to everything being done for them and given to them and change is hard.
Our Home Assignment was good but exhausting, however, we did manage to grab time here and there to enjoy the beautiful summer weather and to spend time with family. Helen's knee gradually improved over time, which made things easier towards the end. On our return she had appointments with the surgeon and physiotherapist, both of whom were very pleased with her progress.
In family news, our son, with his wife and daughter, will shortly be going out to serve in SE Asia. Please pray that they would be able to find tenants for their house and a buyer for their car before they go. Our daughter and her husband have bought a house! They have spent the last month doing lots of DIY, and there will still be a lot to do even after they move in, but they are very happy to finally have their own place.
In a previous newsletter we shared about Thongpon, a leader in the Ban Dara church. Her mother, Jaew, is blind and deaf and suffers with dementia, and for health and safety reasons she desperately needed a downstairs room. We were able to provide the finance for materials and her husband did the construction. Following this the government provided her with a hospital bed and her situation has improved a lot. Thongpon and Plien are so grateful, and we praise God for his provision. Please continue to pray for healing for Jaew, and also for Thongpon, who has Thalassemia.
The Ban Dara church is growing and the building that they rent is no longer fit for purpose. They had been searching for a larger property to rent but found nothing suitable. Then a few months ago a piece of land became available in an ideal location in Ban Dara village. In faith, and with help from the Sacred Light church they bought the land and now they are in the process of preparing the land. Please pray for this work, for the design of the building, for good relationships with neighbours, and for the raising of funds. All being well they hope to start building in January 2026.
Pray for this Sunday when a team from Bangkok is coming to officially recognise Pastor Newton and Pastor Neng as ministers within the Baptist Church; and the church at Maesan as a 'Sala Tham' *
Pray for the visit of a team of 10 from Ashurst Baptist Church from 5th - 10th September, and especially for the evangelistic service on 7th - a combined service of all three congregations at Wang Daeng
Pray for evangelistic rallies on 30th September and 1st and 2nd October in Uttaradit City. Pray that we can take along many friends and neighbours to hear the Good News.
Pray for the future sustainability of the churches. Pray for the career project plans, such as mushroom growing, for the Ban Dara and Wang Daeng congregations.
Pray for our friends and neighbours in Tao Hai to find faith in Jesus, in particular: for Mr Chalong, Mrs Yupin and Mr Choom
Blessings in Christ
Wit & Helen
