Greetings to you all! Hope you are enjoying the warmer weather as you advance through Spring! Over here in Trujillo, Peru it's getting colder in the evenings and early mornings. Still, we appreciate the sunshine and light breezes. The children have been busy at school, enjoying their learning and keeping fit with sports activities such as basketball and football. Dave and the children have started playing Pickleball, which is gaining in popularity here and is a cross between table tennis and tennis. They play outdoors in a nearby public sports complex with Tito, a missionary friend of ours who is a coach. Dave and Michele also go running in the park during the week. We are thankful to have the physical ability to keep going with these important activities. Please would you join us in giving thanks, and pray for our ongoing health and wellbeing?
In March, Pastor Sergio LaRosa our landlord, who is a Peruvian missionary, went on a trip to Iquitos and San Lorenzo, where he spent time with some of the churches that we support there. Taking our greetings, he taught them from the scriptures, encouraged them in their Christian faith and enjoyed fellowship with the precious saints. Here is a picture of him enjoying the local cuisine. He returned with good reports and is planning to go back again later in the year. Please pray for the strengthening of churches in Loreto.
In April, Dave and Michele were invited to share about what it means to follow Jesus to Ruth and Phoebe's year group, as they were learning about different faiths. They also had a 'Faiths Fair' during which they dressed up and gave presentations about what they were learning. During Easter we had several evangelistic services at our church and some came forward to make commitments for Christ; we also had some baptisms on Easter Sunday which was a great cause for celebration! Would you join us in praying for these new believers as they grow in their new found faith?
In April we also attended the 15 year old's birthday celebration of a close friend of ours here, which in Latin American culture is a very significant birthday for girls; it entails their 'coming of age' ceremony and involved her parents giving her many symbolic gifts such as a ring to encourage her to stay pure, a bible to motivate her to stay focused on God's word, a bracelet to urge her to work hard, a tiara to remind her of how precious she is and several other gifts. We were asked to participate by praying over the celebrant. It was a beautiful occasion. We would appreciate your prayers for the Marchand family.
Our Pastor Carlos Palacios and his wife Ynes (pronounced 'eenez') are currently in Spain visiting their daughter Raquel (pronounced 'rakel') who is having Chemotherapy. We have been asked to take on some of the teaching while he is away. Please would you pray for their family and for us as we serve in this way? Also, from May 21-23, Michele is travelling with the Peruvian Baptist Mission Board to Ayacucho, to teach on the history of missions in the church. Please pray for safety, receptivity and much fruit. Thank you all for your amazing and constant support for us.
With much love from Phoebe, Ruth, Jonathan, Michele and Dave
'And God has made all things new, and reconciled us to himself, and given us the ministry of reconciling others to God' 2 Cor 5:18.
