Request a speakerThis is the seventeenth year that EQUIP has been adding value to Nepali education. This prayer letter depicts a glimpse of how and where EQUIP works, with how many schools, team composition and what EQUIP aims to achieve in the long run. Similarly, it includes some personal updates, prayer requests and a praise point.
EQUIP is a teacher training programme with an overall goal to provide training for Nepali school communities to improve the quality of education and to enable them to positively transform their own lives and their communities. Although the EQUIP team consists of eleven members (10 Nepali and 1 expat, 8 men and 3 women). Our work is more of a team effort rather than individual, each team member brings different expertise to empower teachers in 40 rural and urban schools across four districts of Nepal.
Testimonial of EQUIP leadership training
Mr. Bhat, the headteacher of Marsyangdi Basic School, Sundar bazar municipality-Lamjung, has been teaching for the last 18 years across various schools and began his current role last year. Although new to this position, he found the recent leadership training instrumental in enhancing his leadership skills, particularly in policy development and formulating School Improvement Plan (SIP). He shared, “following the training, we revisited and refined our school’s vision to be clear and focused: ‘Our commitment is to provide education that fosters an enriching culture.’ This was the result of extensive discussions with teachers, the school management committee, and the parent-teacher association. We then conducted a survey of parents and used their feedback to set our goals for the year.”
In all the project areas the school leaders and teachers recognize that KISC EQUIP is a faith-based organization and are familiar with our values. This understanding and acceptance of our Christian identity has sometimes allowed us to discuss our personal faith with them. So, there is a vast opportunity to be the living witnesses of God’s love in different ways. As a team of committed Christians our heart behind our work is to be the salt and light in the communities we serve through education based on biblical values and to appropriately share the contextually appropriate gospel on a personal level when opportunity arises.
We are all good as a family. We live in the north of Kathmandu city but my wife’s and my office base is at the south of the city. So, it takes a while for us to commute on a regular basis. We have been doing this for the last 14 years and my wife even longer. But we enjoy this travel time because we could spend time together over the journey, especially when I am around. Both of my daughters, Angel aged 23 and Jessica aged 22 are waiting for their Bachelor's level final semester results. Angel studied Bachelor in Business Studies and Jessica Bachelor in Fashion Designing. Both of them are exploring different things such doing masters degrees and also looking to set up clothing and cafe business. They are in the phase of making tough decisions in life including their marriage. We as parents have been trying to counsel and encourage them in different ways.
Prayer requests:
As a Head of EQUIP and one of the KISC leadership team members I must deal with different issues on a regular basis. Please pray for God's wisdom and discernment in making wise decisions.
Please pray for the safety of my team as they travel to/from project areas and for their families’ support and cooperation as they must leave their families behind quite often during project visit.
Please pray for my daughters, for them to get clarity on what is next in their lives.
We have been praying for field staff for Lamjung and Rukum West projects. In September God provided Anamika as the field staff for Lamjung and she has already taken her role. Similarly, in October Nirajan accepted the job offer as the field staff for Rukum West and hopefully he will join the EQUIP team in November.
Thank you BMS World Mission for your faithful support and partnership over the years and for the opportunity to be a part of the worldwide community of Godly people, much appreciated. I feel blessed being a part of this community knowing that one or more people are always praying for me, my family and my work in Nepal.
Yours faithfully,
Dil Bahadur Karki
Head of EQUIP
