Gulu, Northern Uganda is well, and we are receiving rain for the first season. Being a farming region most of the people are busy in their garden planting seeds to ensure that the family have food and cash after three months. All the dry grasses as a result of the dry season are now green and beautiful.
We are still supporting, training and working with the 101 households under the Agribusiness Livelihoods project. The second year of this project is focusing on scaling up production and training of the farmers to understand farming as a business.
Most of the households hear depends on farming as a means of livelihoods. With the rudimentary farming tools and subsistence farming mindset, this project is trying to build the capacities of the farmers so that realized increased yield.
We supported the participating households with seeds and other agricultural inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides and others. Most of the farmers have planted their seeds and are already weeding meanwhile for those growing vegetables are now transplanting the seedling to the main garden.
The rainfall pattern looks promising and we are hopeful that the farmers will have bountiful harvest at the end of the season.
The Church Community Mobilization Process training is taking place with the pastors and church leaders. its being scaled down to a number of rural churches under the Baptist, Anglican and Pentecostal Assembly of God denominations. Its very inspiring for the rural churches and the positive feedback is encouraging. we are very hopeful that the training will bring a lot of transformation in the rural churches and the surrounding communities.
In Uganda its first term school holiday and the children are staying home. its very refreshing as there is no early preparation to drop the kids at school. The early dropping and evening pickup is really challenging at times when you have field work and to strike a balance has not been easy.
Join us and pray for;
- Good distribution of rainfall so that the farmers have bountiful harvest
- Pray that the children freshen up during the holiday and be ready to start term two after three weeks of holiday.
- Pray for the church community mobilization training as it continues to be enrolled.
May the Lord bless you all in you endeavor
Blessings,
Genesis
