Decades of war in Uganda means that people like Christine never got the chance to learn how to farm well and grow enough food to provide for her family. Not only that, but the war led to mass deforestation, which means that people’s homes are under threat when increasingly powerful storms hit. The roof of Christine’s house has blown off at least three times – and every time it does, she and her husband have to spend hours gathering more grass to rethatch it. The work is strenuous, and Christine has to walk further and further from her home to collect grass each time her roof blows away.
Thankfully, Christine made contact with BMS World Mission partner Justice Livelihoods Health through her local church. Through that connection, she was able to get training in farming and tree planting. And now she can grow trees to protect her home from storms, and grow enough food to provide for her family.
